Eleanor Givens of Spokane, she who generally goes by Nellie, is going through troubles in her life. Her husband, Jack Givens, has asked for a divorce following a lengthy separation despite still having affection for her, Nellie who was hoping and expecting that they would reconcile instead. Now on her own, Nellie learns from her long time friend (although he always wanted to be more than just friends) and financial advisor Dave McGuire that her credit rating is shot, they eventually learning because someone has stolen her identity, that person using Nellie's birth name of Eleanor Kendall. Because of the relatively small financial amount of the fraud thus far, the police are unwilling to help. Feeling at a crossroads in her life, Nellie decides to go to Montréal, where the fake Eleanor Kendall has made most of her credit card purchases, to take her life back from the fake, despite she not really knowing what she will do if and when she finds this woman. Following those credit card purchases, Nellie is able to track down the fake Eleanor Kendall. Rather than go to the police immediately, Nellie feels the need to discover the underlying reason as to why this woman has stolen her identity by finding out about her life. During Nellie's extended stay in Montréal, she befriends British national Christopher Dolan, he a fellow guest at the B&B where she is staying, Chris in town for a conference. That friendship, which includes Nellie treating him as a confidante in her quest to find out about the fake, blossoms into a romance. Through the romance and Nellie's quest to find out about Eleanor, Nellie rediscovers herself as a person. However, Nellie has no idea how potentially deadly her stay in Montréal is in relation to Eleanor, especially as she begins to have a true affection for Eleanor and Eleanor's adolescent daughter Sarah as friends.—Huggo
