"New Year, New Us" follows the millennial life and love of newlyweds Bakari and Imani King. Bakari, a suave, handsome, record executive on the rise, is laser focused on his career while his wife Imani, a gorgeous and bubbly clothing designer who gave up her business for Bakari, is pressuring him to start a family. After a New Year's Eve party, the couple has a near death experience that changes Bakari's outlook and encourages him to move full steam ahead with his family and career. Everything is looking perfect for Bakari and Imani until a tense run-in with Imani's drug dealer ex-boyfriend Dre. The conflict puts a wedge between the happy couple and Imani makes the fateful decision to leave. Meanwhile, Bakari is trying to hold it together. He has a new promotion at work, a new overzealous intern and his first love, Tabitha has popped up in town with her own motives. With so much trouble in paradise, Imani decides to take to social media with their marriage issues and finds out that some things are better left unsaid. The whole city is talking about the Kings. Bakari is leaning on his friends for advice, while Imani tries to find herself by diving back into her work. The internet backlash leaves Bakari in defense mode and he goes on a mission to not only clear his name, but fight for his relationship. As they learn and grow in their marriage, Bakari and Imani began to realize there is nothing more important in love than compromise. Written/Directed/Produced by Nina Stakz.
