The story follows Ikechukwu Obiano, a young idealistic deputy campaign manager for industrialist Mabel King, who is competing against incumbent Governor Idris Sani in her bid to become the first elected female governor in the country. Ike is a true believer in Mabel's vision of change, and together with his mentor senior campaign manager Sikiru Ajala, a veteran when it comes to running campaigns, Ike believes he and their team of young professionals can get Mabel elected by running a "clean" one.On election day, a group of armed men attack a polling center in a decisive local government area, killing the officials and volunteers except for two young NYSC members Lucky Ameh and Amina Tukur who manage to escape the slaughter. In the aftermath, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cancels the results in the LGA and declares Sani winner while Ike and Mabel are further devastated to discover that Sikiru was among the victims. Ike believes Sikiru's death wasn't a random act of violence and Mabel files a court case against Sani and his party, contesting the election results based on gross electoral misconduct, fraud, and murder. Bukky, Sikiru's daughter and Ike's law school crush also believes there's more to her father's death and joins Mabel's legal team to prove it by finding both witnesses to the murders.Meanwhile, Sani vows to fight Mabel's outrageous claims; his special assistant and fixer St. James Onuoha, hires Danladi Umar, a young lawyer and son of Sani's biggest campaign contributor to help counter Ike and Bukky's investigation. Danladi, Ike, and Bukky attended law school together; Danladi and Bukky dated while Danladi and Ike shared a friendly rivalry. Their political views were at odds with each other and they often held earth-shattering discourses about the problems facing Nigerian democracy and ways to fix it. Danladi and Bukky eventually broke up and everyone went their separate ways after law school. Now, they're all thrown back together in a court case with multiple agendas and far-reaching ramifications for all involved. Once again, Ike and Danladi's political views and allegiances will be tested as both support candidates on opposing sides, but are Sani and Mabel as credible as advertised? What secrets will the witnesses reveal and what really led to Sikiru's death?
